Nya kulturministern

UPPDATERING: Läs den so far anonyma, nya bloggaren D Kleinfelds analys.

kulturstöd behövs i Sverige!

http://www.dfi.dk/filmstoette/nds/talentudvikling.htm

Film visas i mycket högre utsträckning i hemmet. Det är på Internet den
digitala filmrevolutionen sker.

Mer sånt i svensk filmdebatt! Verkligen!

http://home.hum.uva.nl/oz/elsaesser/

Swedes should be forbidden to even work within the field of film altogether in my humble opinion. Its doomed from the start.

Its a rotten culture with soft p-correct thinking. What is there to be exressed when everyone has already come to the same conclusions as to the causes of certain social conditions.

There is no point to even debate the issue. Its like making tea from toilet water no matter how long you boil it you cannot change the fact of where it comes from ie. Swedes should stick to paper work and leave the creative and inovative end of it to the Danes and other mature Europeans.

No E.G. not at all...Its a bunch of power hungry greedy rats running the show...The entire pipe line is controlled by "You know who" and "You know who" has its agenda and will do whatever it takes to maintain control over media and the messages that get out to the public here...

The public is completely indoctrinated and without references or taste lacking in international perspectives concerning all subjects that could become "Storys"...

I think the entire endeavor should be thrown away completely...You can`t find anyone here is has pure enough intentions to steer it in the right direction...They are now trying desperatly to catch the wave of independance before it gets out and exposes how backward and pathetic the established system really is...

It stinks like a rotting corpse it needs to be buried and forgotten altogether once and for all...

Anyone with a genuine desire to do something authentic and relevant no matter what the genre must leave this country to do it...There is no hope...It will never get better...The corruption is not skin deep its to the very core of the structure...It needs to be demolished new wallpaper is not enough to cover up the stench.

I saw Gangster yesterday...AN amazing film by an amazingly gifted director...It is so Un-Swedish and fun, sensual and expressionistic something most of its critics don`t quite get after decades of kitchen sink drama...My prediction is that within the near future these guys will start understanding that Sweden is no place to make films if you have any real talent...Its nearly impossible to make money here and if you do its impossible to keep it...becasue its OH-SO-BAD to be good at something and get paid for it...My advice to anyone who reads this is to go and see the Movie and be open to the experience and be a judge for yourself...In other words don`t believe the hype, all the negative press is a very well thought out strategy devised to cripple all attemts at breaking out and being truely independant and free from the monopoly and its affiliates...What would happen if alot of people saw "Gangster" and liked it? Two "Darlings" in one year might be too much for the decision makers holding all the cards to account for. Maybe people would stop asking permission to be creative and then shut down SFI once and for all and do things on their own terms like everywhere else in the world...
I read complaints about type face on the poster and tight skirts??? Get a life...Get some balls...Shut up and trying making a movie with that kind of budget financed outside the system...Good luck.
The film is actually cutting edge in that it has the sensability of the gaming mind...This is where its all heading boys and girls so take note and learn something before you get left behind even farther than you already are.

Public Enemy #1.

Emma sa...

I'm thinking you're someone involved in the project somehow, and I haven't seen Gangster yet - but I do agree with you that Swedish film press is very bad behaved when it comes to reviewing genre movies, or movies that are made outside the system or are different in any way. I don't believe that it is part of some strategy or plan from SFI (who I btw now work for), but I do think it has to do with dusty old values when it comes to "good" films.

Johanna Koljonen, a film critic colleague I not always agree with but always find her writings real interesting said that Gangster "wasn't a film that movie critrics would like, but a film where you could see that it was the film the filmmaker wanted to do". So, I really want to see it and make my own mind up.

Anonym sa...

I am involved in the industry not in the project directly. But as you are already aware of- (In this little stagnant pond everyone knows everyone else in one way or another)...Aside from that, turn your focus for a moment and take a look at the prior histories of the sitting consultants, check out their previous projects and affiliations and who is and has been getting funding...Just connect the dots and the big picture starts to ominously reveal itself...And take a look at who was sitting before them and what they are up to now, what companys and projects they are getting funding for and from who...

This is an old story and the only remedy is to pull the plug, not re-arrange a new line up or new pop-up shell like... Dvoted, Bratek, Rookie, Filmdelta, and a series of TV programs and web based platforms/windows, where the appearance of neutarlity can be maintained...

But you know as well as anyone who has been in the game long enough to have gotten a glimpse behind the smoke screens who is running the show...

Its not at all about making GOOD films, whatever that ideal is. Be it something that adheres to the politically correct treatment of social subjects or if the agreement that "Good" is commercial success in terms of a measurable record of attendance...That is not the real agenda.

The agenda is to keep control as long as THEY can and weather the storm of the New Government.

Why is everybody at SVT and SFI to the left of center? How can so many people with the same point of view gather at the same place without it infecting the output of production? Are they there to make films or to make propaganda films? Its not a mistake or an accident, people are carefully screened all the way from entrances into the institutions untill their admitance into the work place (which is also very closely informed by an unwritten point of view).

The few production companys out there getting all the booty are also in on it...

We are now at a cross road in Swedish film history...There is an entire generation with enough international savy and tecnical competence to crack the code of how to make and sell a film to a broader market...The day that happens all those institutions and the minions serving it will dispurse and cease to exist...THEY know that and are desperatly doing all they can to block anything made outside their little factory...

Thats what the festivals are all about, nothing more then show cases to motivate their own expeditures...How many films are denied yearly a platform because they are TOO GOOD and that showing an unbiased public what can easily be done without the permission of BigBrother? wouldn´t that facilitate the questioning of the entire monolithic structure including all of its disguised manifestation?...For example, the contestants and winners of GBG International film festival are all picked in advance- its part of the scheme for grooming careers, A spring board...What about that huge 1.000.000 prize, who does it go to and who does it pay??? Bratek- very clever indeed...

And those people positioned as gate keepers at GBGIFF, where are they now? one is at SFI running around, another has a site to influence public opinion and the third one is now a front person for Rookie...

And what is Rookie? Boys and girls read the fine print...IITS A MACABRE JOKE...Who are THEY trying to fool? Beware boys and girls-Its yet another spider web to catch any of you out there who might have cracked something on their own...

THEY know that their days are numbered any day now the dam will break and the walls will come tumbleing down and there will be no turning back...

THEY have to cut down anything that shows the way out of this corrupt system that bogs down the spirit of free thought and innovation. Anything or anyone who acts on their own authority without getting on their knees and begging for permission.

And this leads me to the case of "Gangster". What is a Gangster?...A criminal with some status. A breaker of laws and rules. A BAD BOY.

The Greek Myth Prometheus was one of those. He stole the fire from the Gods. And that really pissed them off.

So back to-Who are writing these reviews? Where do they come from? what are their pasts? and what are their political loyalties?...Connect the dots.

Its totally forbidden here to succeed on your own terms without apology or explanation. Attacking this film "Gangster" so ruthlessly is disgraceful and ugly...Its a personal agenda not a proffessional one based on fair play and perspective of the circumstances and climate it was created.

Its the most beautifully shot Swedish film I have ever seen in recent history...The photography is world class...

Its the only film I have seen where woman are so shamlessly violent and liberated in their treatment of men.

Its the only film I have seen in Sweden where people with different ethnic backgrounds interact with out it being in any way an issue or them being portrayed as victims.

And from an artistic stand point its a hybrid of several genres. Its actually succeeds in bridging the gap between the world of games and that of film which as you know is something very topical at the moment. Its a nightmare not a saga it a dark fairytale. An expressionistic vision...This film will be embraced abroad, in France and Germany where their traditions allow for variation and experimentation and RISK.

Sweden made its first vampire movie 2006. There was actually another script floating around for a couple of years but it never got to see the light of day for reasons unknown...Thats where we are.

These independant films whatever their quality (This one happens to be amazing) should be encouraged not spurned.

These FilmMakers are putting their asses on the line for what they love and believe in...Young people coming up should be told about taxes, treaties, investors, etc to assist them in getting things done internationally...But without the fucking spider sucking them dry...The spider is The Film Institute and anyone or anything in anyway connected to it...

Emma since you are working now for THEM maybe you should inform them of this exchange (If you havent done so already) so they have some time to scramble together a way to contain this diatribe before it spreads like wild fire.

Maybe their army of publicists can manufacture a strategy to rhetorically meet this very real challenge they are faceing.

Or perhaps they will try to buy me with some sort of prize or position as they did with Nils Petter Sundgren and Stefan Jarl after they publicly voiced their criticism.

Alas some of us can`t be bought...

There is much more to it then meets the eye. And alot is at stake for THEM. Its their propaganda machine. Their favorite tool of indoctrination.

Are you by any chance referring to Vampire's kiss? I worked as script on the pilot for that. I'm thinking we might have met?

I agree with you on quite a few things, and my husband Martin Munthe (Camp Slaughter, Stinger, Hjärta av sten) probably agrees on even more. When it comes to dvoted I think it was the best thing to come out of the new deal, and I'm proud to work with it. Hopefully I can somehow help inspire young filmmakers, give them new contacts and tools to go forward - and make films both within and ouitside of the system.

Emma I believe in your sincerity and your commitment.

In my opinion if you are genuine about helping and inspiring the young film makers then I urge you to tell them to study abroad, to work abroad, to work in English in order to escape the tyrany of mediocraty that rules here.

Tell them about finance, which books to read which workshops abroad to take.

Tell them to work for themselves and not feed the machine their work only to get a Tee-Shirt in return for their efforts.

Tell them to defy authority and take matters completely into their own hands and to maintain control over their own career destinys. To never sign over their rights to Memfis, Sonet, Or Filmlance.

Tell them to question everything and to think for themselves. Tell them they can make enough money by doing something in another country to never have to grovel at the feet of talentless beaurocrats again.

Let them see whats on the other side of the fence. Set them free without strings attatched. Tell them how to structure their companies so they can actually make a profit.

And don`t forget to tell them how to arrange ownership of their own equipment so they don`t have to turn to anyone who will filter the messages before granting them usage of those tools.

Set them free from the burden of having to perpetuate the messages of the PARTY in order to gain access to resources enabling them to execute their individual visions.

Ohterwise Emma to keep them bound and dependant to the system is really a dispicable act. One I think a person like yourself should perhaps reconsider.

Its not enough to have a terrace in Cannes and representatives at all the major festivals when the countrys output itself is so far behind everything else. Its a pathetic joke. It doesnt matter how it got that way it just has to stop at once and those who are driving this countrys talent into the ground must relinquish their power or they will have to be over thrown in another way. That process is already in motion. The kids and the public are not stupid.

You can`t have your cake and eat it to. It can`t be new, interesting, innovative, provacative, yet have the strings of the puppeteers constantly tripping them up every step along the way. Breathing down their necks at every turn to insure what? Quality? or what the climax stands for in terms of political message?

This system is very much like a big fat pimp sending its stable out into the world to bring back some booty to Mommy...Set them free without being obligated or indebted in anyway.

Knowledge is not enough. Everyone knows what I am saying is true. Everyone talks about this in whispers in fear that someone in a position to help or hurt might overhear them. It takes courage to act on the knowledge.

And that is what "Gangster" has done. Acted on the knowledge.

Tell the young film makers about Risk Capital and that its the only way to get something done here if you have any self respect and are not willing to kiss the fat ass of some CUNT in a petty position of power.

Tell them that in every other Western Democracy thats how it works. Tell them it actually is a buisness but that you can also achieve great ART in the attemt...

....In regards to the Vampire Film, yes I think it was called The Kiss. I read it many years ago when it was floating around as did everyone else. That script was also written by the author of Gangster.
...In other words that MAN was ahead of his time here. Just as many people who have been doing very interesting feature films within science fiction yet never seeing a dime from the Social Democrats or Communists...(Lets call a spade a spade because thats what it is really about) - (Unfortunately its all political not artistic nor at worst commercial) and not only being shut out but when they do complete a film all the channels and platforms are blocked to them since there exists a monopoly and concentration of power that dictates what gets out and doesn`t. But the same film the same shit can get through when done by their own inhouse people.

And as with all cartels they annialate the competition, in this case through a strangle hold on resources and the built in sanctioning of governmental robbery designed to sabatage any attempts at amassing enough wealth for any individual to act independantly of that system.

Transgressing that tabu is equal to heresy in this context and is severly punishable, If not directly from above the attacks come from below since people are reacting on reflex when this issue is concerned. I think its called jealousy.

"Gangster" managed to be born despite this backward culture. THEY swarm around it like vultures to tear it apart before it even gets to see the light of day...Where are all the Feminists and Multi-Culture people now? The film is ground breaking in its treatment of minoritys and woman...So what if the characters behave outside of a Genus Dramaturgi...Who cares...The film is fun lots and lots of fun!!!...Imagine that. Ever hear of Kill Bill? or Leon?...Matrix anyone?

The moral outrage this film has caused is ridiculous. Trying to dismiss it with a tone of indignant authority like a scolding Mother. Thats what alot of these reviews sound like to me. Its acceptable and fun when Almodovar plays with Kitch isn`t it? So whats the problem with some tits and ass? A couple of shoot outs? Isn`t that what an average Saturday night in town looks like?

Its all just sour grapes we all know that. Whatever the complaint is its still unjustified and totally out of proportion. You don`t swat flys with sledge hammers unless you have an ax to grind.

The people behind GANGSTER and lots of other film makers will continue fighting for what they believe in without bowing down or compromising as they have done through thick and thin for years and years. They will pick themselves up and dust themselves off. They will raise the nessesary capital one way or the other as any true international film maker or producer does. And they will build international careers while everyone else waiting in line at SFI will have to satisfy themselves with meagar bowls of porage clueless as to how opportunity passed them by.

WAKE UP...

Your LIFE is what YOU make of it...

Self made independant film making MEN and WOMAN within the international community look upon these feats (Gangster) with admiration and awe. It is a feat that commands respect within international circles.

Get with the program or step off and get out of the way because the locomotive is on track and gaining speed...Look out.

Public Enemy #1. I love you.

Oh get a room you two! :)

I definitely see what you mean, and I definitely feel that my version of an ideal film Sweden looks very different to that of many of my colleagues at Filmhuset. But, I would really regret not taking the oportunity to see how it works from the inside.

I know they are looking for writers for their new magazine - people who can be critical of SFI and the system. Poeple who can stir up a debate. I told them my husband would be perfect, but perhaps that would be a bit too nepotistic... You seem to fit like a glove too. Would you be up for it?

Unfortunately Emma my fee is an exorbitant one.

Formulas and blue prints are the work of Architects not layman.

I don`t work for peanuts and at the moment I am already employed, and very well paid.

Survival is the issue at hand.
Theirs not mine.

If there ideeed is serious interest in my services you are welcome to leave an email adress here for me to someone who makes decisions. Someone capable of negotiating a deal on their own with me. And I will contact them about a possible deal.

I am waiting for an offer or did they think they would get off the hook so easy? Monitoring my moves will not solve their problem, adjusting accordingly is not a sufficient disguise.

Second guessing my motives only reveals their inability to read with any amount of precision.

They are no match.
They are very vulnerable.

Tell them I am not fooled.

Arrange a meeting and lets see if we can work something out.

This is the last time I reach out with this sort of gesture. Make that clear to them.

Ignoring this overture with silence doesn`t mean they are not listening. I know they are.

If I don`t get a concrete serious responce I will go underground and the next time I make myself visible it will be to announce the termination of their institution and to declare a set of new principles along with introducing Sweden to a new line-up of qualified executives to herald in the new era of Film Production to my following and to the general public at large...

You know who I am.

Chill. :)

I took some time off last week, and didn't get to tell them about you til today. I will e-mail you a contact address right away.

Congratulations MARTIN MUNTHE on the INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION ... YOU are recieving for the FEATURE FILMS YOU have Written, Directed, and Produced, Completely OUTSIDE of the Propaganda-Machine commonly known as SFI=The Swedish Film Institute.

http://www.variety.com/index.asp?layout=cannes2007&jump=features&id=2540&articleid=VR1117965329&cs=1

Maybe some of the Boys and Girls over at DVOTED will soon discover for themselves that the scent of cheese at the end of the Institutionalized corridors is a trap and the only way out ... IS OUT !!!

I think all the public ventilating about possible solutions to the issues at hand concerning the state of Swedish film is at this stage destructive.

The sole reason being that everything is monitored and incorporated into their ( SFI ) latest attemts att keeping up or at least giving the impression of doing that.

All the great advice is obsorbed by them (SFI) and still they maintain control. I don`t think that is an option.

As far as I am concerned my objective is to shut them down for good, not to have them (SFI) make reforms based on our free consultations.

An alternative way has to be penned and presented.

A DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES that excludes their participation in any and every conceivable way.

Listen, there is no point whatsoever in continuing to debate this matter on this old blog post. The only ones who will read it is me and perhaps Martin. And how do you think that piece got into Variety in the first place? Hint: It was one of the girls at dvoted who made that happen.

Anonym sa...

Where do you suggest this debate continue?

What about over at Dvoted?

Emma sa...

Absolutely!

Anonym sa...

I am making a documentary. Do Mr. & Ms. Munthe want to be in it? Its going to be Historic. It charts the last days leading up to the Institutions fall...

Anonym sa...

Is that a YES or a NO?
